  Chapter One

  Brandon

Teetering at the edge of the bridge, Brandon looked down to see his getaway boat manned by Donaldson waiting for him twenty feet below. This extraction had not worked out as planned and his escape from the governmental military headquarters had been fraught with problems. Case in point, the two goons behind him with guns. Even though he had been trained for this sort of thing, it was funny how the body’s responses were still strong. His heart must have been beating a million times a minute as he stared down the barrels of their guns. His only saving grace was that they didn’t know that he had a boat below.

“Who do you work for?” Goon One’s thickly accented voice demanded as he shook his gun in Brandon’s direction.

“Do you really expect me to answer?” he asked incredulously. He was certain that the CIA would never forgive him if it got back that one of their operatives got caught hacking into the military mainframe of the tiny, unstable Eastern European country of Inhovakia.

General Bohalov had been planning one too many secret meetings with arms dealers to make the CIA comfortable and sent Brandon in to investigate. The little micro SD card he had hidden in his underwear should enlighten his higher superiors as to what to expect from the crazy dictator. While infiltrating the main computers, Brandon had stumbled across the evidence that the dictator and the country’s bratva had a hand in some of the biggest credit card hacks in the U.S. over the last two years. Naughty, naughty, Brandon thought he felt the SD card shift to a more delicate region of his undergarments. I knew I should have sewn a pocket in my underpants!

Brandon had been part of operations like these many times during his career, first as a Marine and now as a CIA operative, but never had he been caught. Even as a kid he had a knack for getting in and out of tight spots, but everyone’s luck runs out at some point. It was what you did in that moment that defined your continued success, and in his case, ability to keep breathing. The encrypted files had taken longer than expected to download once he had stumbled upon them, allowing the patrolling guards to come across him in the server room. Running back and forth between the servers, dodging the barrage of bullets had been ‘fun.’ He still couldn’t believe that those idiots had fired weapons in their own server room. Talk about shooting yourself in your own foot!

Running through the dark Inhovakian streets had proven difficult with the goons following close behind firing at him. Luckily for him, they were bad shots. The bridge that was his meeting point, was decently lit, making it easy to find even in the most tense of moments. Now, standing near the edge, he just looked forward to enjoying his dinner away from these two thugs, who he should really just jump away. The problem was, Brandon found them rather amusing.

“You have to be working for someone. No one has that kind of training off the street,” Goon Number Two reasoned.

Brandon shrugged, “Does it matter? I mean, let’s face it. You’re probably going to shoot me anyway and I’m sure that the General already has an idea of where I’m from.”

“So confident for a fucker who will be sinking with the fishes,” Goon One gave a hard laugh.

Goon Two rolled his eyes, “It’s sleeping with the fishes, you idiot.”

“That doesn’t make sense! Do fish even sleep?”

“They do, although with their eyes open,” Brandon offered. Idiot! Should have jumped!

“Shut up!” The goons looked back at him as they began to argue.

Brandon decided to take this moment, but as he turned and vaulted himself over the edge of the bridge, he heard a loud “HEY!” and a pop.

As he fell towards the dark waters below, his shoulder felt like it had been stung by a wasp on steroids. As he hit the icy cold Golgan River, her face popped into his mind.

She always showed up at the worst times during these extractions. Delilah Ann Faber was the one who hadn’t gotten away because he had never had her in the first place. He vowed to himself as the blackness of the river seeped around him, that if he managed to not sink or sleep with the Inhovakian fish, that he would let her know how he felt. He just prayed that she felt the same. Hearing the whirl of Donaldson’s boat near him, he let the blackness take him with Delilah on his lips.

  Chapter Two

  Delilah

As the apple rolled across the parking lot, Delilah cursed the flimsy plastic bags from the grocery store. Flicking her gaze to the door of her apartment on the third floor, she wondered how she would make it up without her groceries splatting on the pavement below.

“Excuse me ma’am, but you’re my Final Fantasy.”

Delilah felt her eyes go large. She knew that voice. Dreamt of that voice, and even though she wouldn’t admit it, she had even touched herself as she imagined that voice whispering naughty things to her.

She turned slowly to see her final fantasy, Brandon Ryker in the flesh looking just as hot as always. Delilah always thought that life had it out for her and making her best friend one of the hottest men alive was some sort of cruel joke. Especially since she was perhaps one of the geekiest people she had ever met, and as a programmer at Nebula One, one of the world
’s largest video game companies, that was saying a lot.

Brandon leaned back against the car behind him with a lazy smile on his face. He always reminded Delilah of Ashton Kutcher during his early modeling years, only Brandon’s smile had a hint of mischievousness that made him all that more irresistible. And his body! It played a key role in all of Delilah’s late night fantasies. Brandon’s physique was toned from hard use and not the gym. His build was that of a swimmer, with lean muscles and rippling abs. She hated to think of the numerous women that probably enjoyed exploring him.

Delilah had no idea what he did, but after his time in the military doing something secret, then coming home and going to college on the GI bill, she was hardly surprised when he was snatched up by some secret organization doing God knows what somewhere. She had always wanted to come straight out and ask him, since they had never had any other secrets between them, if they didn’t count the one involving her heart being totally his, but she always imagined that he wouldn’t want to really know the answer. Thinking of him being all sexy beating up bad guys was good for the imagination, but knowing he was in harm’s way, just made her feel on edge. So would she want the truth?

“Well, look what the mage dragged in!” She teased back, wishing she was dressed in something better than her My Joystick is Bigger Than Yours shirt. Brandon had teased her with bad, nerd inspired pick-up lines since their Revenge of the Nerds marathon one cold winter day between his finals at college.

As he pushed off the car, Delilah took a moment to admire the muscular beauty of his body in motion, although she noticed a stiffness about him that wasn’t normally there.

“Looks like you could use a little help, Delish,” he pointed to the ripped bag that at that moment decided to come completely undone spilling her tampons and bananas on the ground.

Feeling herself blush, she looked down at the groceries on the pavement, “Umm, yup. I guess I could.”

“I’ll grab the other bags if you want to grab your stuff,” he moved to the other groceries piled at her feet and picked them up with a groan.

“Are you okay?” Delilah’s brow furled as she looked over to see his face go white.

  “Fine,” he bit out.

“You’re not fine. What have you been doing? James Bond stuff again?” she let out a little more harshly than she meant.

“Ha! If I told you, I’d have to kill you,” he teased as he began climbing the stairs.

“You planning on staying in the guest room?” She followed him up, enjoying the sight of his delicious rear end. So many times she wanted to tell him how she felt, but worried that it would ruin their friendship.

“Ahhh, and here I thought it was my room,” he drew out.

Delilah hadn’t wanted to admit it, but it was his room. A room she kept for him in hopes that he would visit her between whatever secret spy stuff he did. She knew that it would have been easier and more financially sound to get a roommate; after all, San Jose was expensive, but she didn’t want to risk him not coming back to her. She rationalized it that she was looking out for a friend, but deep down, she didn’t want him away from her and risk him finding another girl.

Pulling her keys out, she unlocked the door to her tiny two bedroom apartment. She could hear Mr. Garcia playing his loud Mariachi music a few doors down and Mrs. Gupta was cooking that great curry again. Delilah’s mouth watered as she wished that she had more than bananas to offer Brandon.

“You still have the Tamagotchi keychain I got you,” Brandon gave a laugh as she jiggled the key in the knob.

Pulling her attention away from her neighbors, Delilah looked down blankly at her keys and then laughed, “As if I could ever part from my baby Tom Tom,” she chuckled. In reality, she couldn’t part with something he had given her, even if it had been over ten years ago when he was the high-school bad boy heartthrob and she was the overlooked nerd.

Opening the door, she turned on the lights to her place and let out a sigh. At least she had cleaned it yesterday. She was no Martha Stewart, but keeping the place decent in case he popped up was never far from her mind.

“How long are you here for?” She asked as she put the groceries on the counter of her small galley kitchen.

Brandon put the grocery bags down in the kitchen and began pulling out the milk and eggs to put them in the refrigerator making Delilah laugh. Some people had the ability to seem at home wherever they were and Brandon was one of them. He never seemed to feel uneasy or uncomfortable. Delilah wished she had that quality. Instead, she always felt vaguely awkward.

Turning around he gave her a confused look, “What?”

Delilah gave a silly little smile. “It’s always like you’ve never left when you come back. Look at how you get right back into helping with the chores. Can you vacuum next?”

“Oh yeah. I can suck,” he gave her a taunting look that had a surprising amount of heat to it.

She felt flustered. You must be reading him wrong! “Hahaha Brandon! You do suck!” Turning to leave him to put the tampons in the bathroom, she swore she heard him whisper “I’ll suck you all you want” as she left. Stopping at the thermostat, she flipped it on. She would need the cool fan if she was going to make it through the night. Already her mind was playing tricks on her, making her think he was looking at her and saying things that only happened in her wildest dreams.

  Chapter Three

  Brandon

Opening the freezer, Brandon leaned in after putting Delilah’s three cartons of Dryer’s ice cream in. He needed to cool off or he would certainly scare her with the giant wood he was sporting. At least then you could compare joysticks and show her that yours is definitely bigger, his brain teased him as he pictured her soft breasts filling out that ridiculous shirt. His body always hummed when near her, but it seemed on overdrive now. Being so close to death must have made his system crave her more, he reasoned.

She was like a breath of fresh air. Innocence hung around her despite her almost twenty-seven years on Earth. She was sexy in ways that she didn’t know. Sometimes he thought that if she were a superhero, that would be her super power. Her brown hair was long and curly, begging to be pulled during hot sex. Brandon almost came as he imagined pulling her knee high socks down her legs as he licked his way up her curvy body. She had always seen herself as fat and lamented her addiction to ice cream, but Brandon saw her as perfect, with creamy, ample curves waiting to be explored. Everyone had always paled in comparison to her, but he had been afraid to show her how he had felt for fear that he would lose her light. No longer. He was going to man up and find a way to show her that she could be happy with him, even if he was her polar opposite in so many ways.

Breathing deeply, he tried to remind himself that she would be back any moment and that by then he had to have control over his overeager body. This wasn’t about seduction; it was about the fulfillment of his love.

“Want some ice cream?’ her sweet voice pulled him out of his naughty thoughts, making him jump with surprise.

Fuck! Normally you hear a mouse piss on assignment, where’s your head? He chastised himself. The problem was he knew- it was further south and pointing toward the sky.

“Um, yeah. Sure,” grabbing the chocolate he turned to see her checking him out. Or at least he hoped that was what she was doing. It could be that she was just trying to figure out why he was moving so stiff.

“Great,” she sat on the stool and waited for him to serve her. He liked that she seemed comfortable with him being at home in her personal space. “Don’t forget my cone!” She reminded him.

Giving her a smile, he went to the cupboard and pulled out a cake cone from the box. “As if I could forget, mi ’lady!” he bowed with fake flourish.

“So where have you been, Mr. Bond?” She pretended to tease him, though he knew she wanted him to tell her without revealing the danger he had been in.

Brandon hated when she asked him these questions. She knew he couldn’t tell her the truth. She was his best
friend and closest person in the world to him. Delilah didn’t know it, but she was his next of kin should he ever meet his maker on assignment. His parents had skipped out on him the second he turned eighteen, not that the two druggies had even been much in the way of parental figures anyway.

“Ahh, I’ve been to Fangorn Forest,” he always came up with locales from her favorite books. It was their tradition, since he could never come out and say where he had really been.

“How lovely! How were the Ents?” She teased back, a sparkle coming to her eye. Lord of the Rings locations always did that to her.

“Oh you know… their bark is worse than their bite,” he scooped out some of the ice cream and put it in her bowl.

Delilah laughed. It was the sweetest sound he had heard since the last time he had made her laugh, which was back before his latest assignment. Too long ago, he thought as he plopped the cone on top of the ice cream.

He loved how she had her little rituals when it came to her favorite treat. She always scooped it into a bowl and then scooped the ice cream from there into her cone. She claimed that that way she could enjoy having the cone multiple times by re-scooping the ice cream from the bowl onto the cone. Preparing himself for the most erotic sight he had seen in ages, he adjusted his pants awkwardly behind the kitchen counter. He felt guilty lusting after his best friend, but every time her little pink tongue came out for a lick, he just couldn’t help picturing her tongue on his eager cock, lapping up every drip of pre-cum.

Awkwardly clearing his throat as he watched her engrossed in her treat, he adjusted his tightening pants before scooping himself some ice cream.

“So, what do you have planned today?” he casually asked as he took the stool next to her.

Pushing her glasses up, she looked thoughtful for a moment. “Well, I was going to gang bang the guys next door, but now that you’re here, I thought that I would twist your arm to help me test out the new game expansion.”
